Due to the current situation managing the COVID-19, Oxford College of Emory University has cancelled Fall 2021 & Spring 2022 programming.  This includes all our swimming programs, including Swim Lessons and Open and Lap Swim.

This fall, Emory Oxford College will be offering group swimming lessons. We offer American Red Cross group lessons from the Parent & Child level through Learn-to-Swim level 4. Swim lessons will be overseen by Tiara DeLapp, Emory Oxford's Aquatic Coordinator. Tiara has 13 years of experience teaching all levels of swimming. She has a collegiate swimming background and has coached USA club and YMCA swim teams for many years.

Group Descriptions 

  • Parent & Child 1 & 2
    • Suggested age is 6 months – 3 years old. The purpose of this class is to familiarize swimmers with water and prepare them to learn to swim the American Red Cross Preschool Aquatics or Learn-to-Swim courses. Participants will grow more comfortable in and around water through games, songs, and activities designed for their age level. Lessons are held in three-week sessions with a total of six 30-minute classes, with one instructor for every six child participants. This course is not designed to teach children to become good swimmers or to survive in the water on their own.
  • Pre-school Level 1
    • These classes are designed for children 4 years of age, who are somewhat comfortable in the water but are not yet ready for a full swim lesson atmosphere.  Participants will grow more comfortable in and around water through games, songs, and activities designed for the preschool age level.  Specific emphasis is placed on growing students’ confidence in submerging their face and head. Lessons are held in two-week sessions with a total of eight 30-minute classes, with one instructor for every five participants.  
  • Pre-school Level 2
    • These classes are designed for children ages 4-5 years who are somewhat comfortable in the water but are not yet ready for a full swim lesson atmosphere. Participants will grow more comfortable in and around water through games, songs, and activities designed for the preschool age level.  Specific emphasis is placed on growing students’ confidence in submerging their face and head. Lessons are held in two-week sessions with a total of eight 30-minute classes, with one instructor for every five participants. 
  • Level 1 – Introduction to Water Skills
    • Level 1 helps swimmers feel comfortable in the water and enjoy the water. Participants will learn breathing techniques, glides, floats, and begin the basics of swimming. For children who are not frequently in the pool and may need assistance with floating and moving in the water; underwater is unfamiliar to them.  
  • Level 2 – Fundamental Aquatic Skills
    • Level 2 gives participants success with fundamental skills. Participants will learn how to retrieve items from the bottom of the pool, work on the length of floats and glides, and improve on their swimming technique. For children who swim moderately well by themselves; go underwater easily and comfortably; floats by themselves and display some coordination using arms and legs for short distances.
  • Level 3/4 – Stroke Development & Stroke Improvement
    • Participants are still learning to master the fundamentals of swimming. Lessons will continue to develop freestyle and backstroke technique, head first diving, water safety, as well as introducing breaststroke and butterfly. For children who swim a moderate distance in the pool using front and backstroke; do not need assistance and can enter deep water without apprehension.  

Pricing Information

  • Group Swimming Lessons - $108 for 4 weeks, 2 classes per week
  • Parent & Child Lessons - $81 for three weeks, 2 classes per week 
  • Adult Lessons - $108 for 8 classes total 
  • Classes are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis
  • Payment is due at registration/spots are not held without payment.
  • NO REFUNDS – Instructors are hired based on registrations
  • NO MAKE-UP CLASSES for missed classes
  • No minimum requirement for participation

Private Lessons

Private swim lessons are offered year-round to Oxford faculty, staff, and community members. We offer private and semiprivate lessons to both children and adults (we don’t have any age restriction on private lessons).

Private Lessons (1 swimmer per instructor) are 30 minutes in duration. Please see below for pricing information. 

Semi-private lessons (2-3 swimmers per instructor) are 30 minutes in duration. Please note that semi-private lessons are for those relatively close in age and skill level. Participants must provide a partner(s) for semi-private lessons. A lesson package must be purchased for each child. Please see below for pricing information.

**No Refunds will be issued after the first day of class


Cancellation Policies

  1. All private lesson cancelations should be made by calling the Aquatic Coordinator, Tiara DeLapp at 770-784-8424 at least 24 hours in advance. Failure to do so will result in the loss of the session and will not be made up.
  2. If one member of a semi-private lesson cannot attend the lesson, then that lesson must be rescheduled by all parties or one party will forfeit the session. That absent party will not be able to make up the missed session. Instructions for canceling lessons are outlined above.

Inclement Weather Policies

  • The pool will be cleared of all participants for thunder and lightning and will remain clear for 30 minutes after each additional occurrence of thunder and lightning.
  • Swim lesson participants will be informed by EMAIL as soon as possible if an upcoming lesson is being canceled.
  • Days where inclement weather is occurring, the decision to cancel a lesson will be made up to 60 minutes before the lessons are scheduled to begin.
  • If a swim lesson is taking place in the water and inclement weather occurs, there must be at least 20 minutes left of the lesson to schedule a makeup session.
