Katie Dorton CHL Student Athlete of The Month for November 2019

The Center for Healthful Living (CHL) has recognized Katie Dorton of the women’s cross country team as the November Student Athlete of the Month. This award recognizes a student athlete's commitment to the motto of the CHL: Educate the Mind and Exercise the Body.

Dorton is from Atlanta, GA and is currently pursuing a major in Psychology and a minor in English. She is Oxford's only dual varsity athlete competing for cross country in the fall and golf in the spring. As a runner, Dorton holds the school record for fastest 5k time with 19:02. As a freshman, she finished in the top-10 at the NJCAA Cross Country National Tournament, which earned her a spot on the NJCAA All-American Second-Team. This year as a sophomore, she was named GCAA Region Runner of the Year after a 1st-place finish in the Regional Tournament. She continued her success in the national tournament earning a 2nd-place finish and NJCAA First-Team All-American Honors.

Outside of cross country and golf, Dorton volunteers at the local Oxford Farm where she helps plant and take care of crops that will be used at the Oxford Dining Hall. She also volunteers at the Covington YMCA where she mentors the youth in an after school program.

We are proud to recognize the November Student Athlete of the Month, Katie Dorton.
