Eagles Soar past the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University JV

 

OXFORD, Ga. – The Eagles coming off two straight victories from their traditional road trip to Clearwater Beach, Florida soared past the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University JV 85 to 62.  The Eagles welcomed their return to the friendly confines of Williams Gym making 51.7 percent of their shot from the floor and 9 of 17 treys.

Robbie Wainio (20 points, 17 of which came in the 2nd half) took over mid-way through the 2nd half and the Eagles never looked back.  Ryan Kwong and Kyle Brown both had impressive game producing 18 and 15 points respectively.   Dontavious Holmes came off the beach and had a team high 10 rebounds along with playing some impressive defense.

"After a somewhat slow start we played our most complete game by far this year," head coach Roderick Stubbs commented.  "We lost to them earlier in the year and the guys played with some passion and I am proud of their effort. "

The game was tied at 7 all at the 12:35 mark of the first half before the Eagles went on a 9 to 2 run and never looked back.  The score at halftime was 35 to 22.

Oglethorpe cut it to 8 around the mid-point of the 2nd half; however, sophomore Robbie Wainio made a put back basket and 2 consecutive three point shots to extend the lead to 16 points.   

The Eagles squad looks to continue riding the winning momentum as it plays in the seventh annual Dennis Spruell Classic this weekend.

Oxford plays Georgia Northwestern Technical College on Friday @ 8:00pm and Central Carolina Technical College on Saturday @ 4:00pm.
