Eagles Win Thriller over New Rock Sport Academy in Dennis Spruell Classic

OXFORD, GA. – The Oxford Eagles men's basketball team came away with a thrilling overtime victory  over New Rock Sport Academy on the final day of the 7th Annual Dennis Spruell Classic.  The Eagles won both games of the classic as they defeated the Bobcats of Georgia Northwestern Technical College 77 to 48 on Friday.

On Saturday, the Eagles were down by 5 points with 58 seconds to go in regulation. The Eagles capitalize on two missed front ends of the one and one by New Rock, when Ryan Kwong hit a three point shot and Seb Mosso scored on a big time post move with 5 seconds to go in regulation.  New Rock was not able to convert on a last second shot to win in regulations.

In overtime, the Eagles built a 5 point led with 2 minutes to go, but New Rock stayed close and with 9 seconds to go in overtime had cut to 2 points and had a chance to win or tie the game with the basketball.  New Rock went for the win with a three point shot by S. Jackson who missed but G. Webb was fouled with 0.3 seconds to go.  He made the first free throw, but the 2nd one rimmed out to give the Eagles the win.  

Eric Lee had his best game of his young career as he provided a huge spark off the bench with 24 points, 6 rebounds and made 9 of 10 free throws. Ryan Kwong contributed 14 points and 7 rebounds while Kyle Brown netted 13 points and 7 rebounds. Robbie Wainio produced 10 points and 8 rebounds and Seb Mosso continued his impressive play with an double-double 10 points and 10 rebounds.

New Rock was led by S. Jackson who had a tremendous game with 31 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

"We are proud of how hard the guy fought today, we could have easily lost today to a very good team, but we never gave up and pulled out a thrilling victory," commented head coach Roderick Stubbs.

The Eagles made 23 of 30 free throws compared to New Rocks 8 of 15. Both teams did not shot well from the field as the Eagles shot 40.3 percent and New Rock shot 40.5 percent.

The Eagles now look to play conference rival West Georgia Technical College on the road Wednesday, January 24th.  Game time is set for 7:30pm.  The game will be played at Oak Mountain Academy in Carrollton, Georgia.
