Emory Oxford Men’s Basketball Defeats LaGrange

HIGHLIGHTS

Oxford, GA – First-year JJ Halaby led four double-figure scorers in the Eagle's win over the Panthers of LaGrange College Reserve Squad. With the 89-83 decision, the Emory Oxford men's basketball team improve to 17-6 for the season.

Halaby, who scored 25 points, broke the all-time record for free throws made in the season by going 15-for-16 from the charity stripe. He currently has 200 total made free throws. Sophomore captain Ryan Kwong scored 19 points, while going 8-for-8 from the free-throw line. First-year Jermon Clark had 15 points and co-captain Zane Patel had 13 points to round up the night for the Eagles. Halaby led the Eagles with 5 assists and Patel led the team in rebounds with 12.

In the second half, the Eagles were down 67-68 with 8 minutes remaining when they went on their 16-0 run. This gave the Eagles a 15 point lead with 3 minutes remaining, which was to difficult too for the Panthers to overcome. The Eagles held LaGrange to 32% shooting from the field in the second half, while Oxford shot 52%. The Eagles got to the free-throw line 45 times, converting on 30 attempts.

"The guys battled back after having a rough first half," stated Head Coach Roderick Stubbs. "This was a good test for us as we prepare for our second conference game on Wednesday." 

The Eagles return to action Wednesday, February 6th against West Georgia Technical College. This conference game will be held in Carrolton, GA at Oaks Mountain Academy. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
