Emory Oxford Men’s Basketball Defeats Georgia Northwestern On the Road

HIGHLIGHTS

Rossville, GA – Freshman JJ Halaby scored 27 points to lead the Emory Oxford men's basketball team to a road win against Georgia Northwestern Technical College. The Eagles improve to 18-7 for, while the Bobcats fall to 5-15 for the season.

The Eagles had four players in double figures, with Halaby leading the way going 10-for-20 from the field including 4-for-7 from behind the arc. Sophomore Ryan Kwong scored 22 points, while shooting 6-for-9 from three-point range. Freshman Jermon Clark had a double-double with 18 points and a team-high 15 rebounds. Sophomore Eric Lee scored 10 points to round up the day for Oxford. Halaby led the Eagles with 6 assists. 

Only going into the halftime with a four-point lead due to a hot shooting performance from the Bobcats, the Eagles came out of the half locked in on the defensive end. Oxford held Georgia Northwestern to 27% shooting from the field including 19% from the three-point line in the second-half. The Eagles were down two key players but received big minutes from their bench players. Freshman Osasere Collette came of the bench and scored a career-high 8 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and dished out 2 assists.

The Eagles finished the game shooting 33-for-69 (48%) from the field including 13-for-31 from behind the arc.

"Our guys battled today especially being down two of our key players," stated Head Coach Roderick Stubbs. "We came out of the half a better team on the defensive end and came away with this road victory."

The Eagles will play Oglethorpe University Reserve Squad on Monday (Feb. 11th) at Oglethorpe. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30PM.
