Powell & McCravy Lead Second-Half Surge in Eagles’ Road Victory

Temple Terrace, FL – Freshmen Shane McCravy and Thomas Powell combined for 51 points to lead the Eagles to a 78-72 victory over Florida College Reserve Squad. With this win, the Eagles improve to 7-8 for the season.

The Eagles had 3 players in double figures with McCravy scoring 31 points and grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds. This is McCravy's fifth 30-point outing and seventh double-double of the season. Powell scored 20 points, all in the second half, including 4-of-8 from three and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. Fellow freshman Arturo Varela scored 12 points to help the Eagles get this victory. Freshman Jack Polzin led the Eagles with team-highs in assists (5) and steals (4).

In the second half, the Eagles found themselves down 17 but started to chip away at the lead following two McCravy highlight dunks. With 6:17 left to go, Powell caught fire and hit 4-straight three-pointers in a 3-minute span to bring the Eagles within 2. The Eagles outscored the Falcons 17-9 in the final 3 minutes to eventually get the win.

The Eagles held a 51 to 37 rebounding advantage over the Falcons and out of Oxford's 28 made field goals, 21 of them came off an assist.

"This was a great team win because all of the guys that came into the game contributed," said Head Coach Roderick Stubbs. "It is great to leave Florida with a victory."

The Eagles will return home on Wednesday (Jan. 15) against Columbia International University Reserve Squad. Tipoff is set for 7:30PM.
