Men’s Soccer Bounces Back With A Win

The Oxford Men's Soccer Team won their game against Northwest Mississippi Community College 6-4. Freshman Eduardo Barquet led the Eagles with 2 goals. Chandler Cagle, Brandon Simon, Jason Welling each scored a goal to help propel the Eagles to victory.

In a back-and-forth first half, the Eagles striked first as Cagle netted a goal in the 8th minute. The Rangers of Northwest Mississippi CC answered back with a goal of their own 4 minutes later. Barquet scored his first goal of the night in the 27th minute to put the Eagles back ahead 2-1. Unfortunately, the Rangers were able to tie the game up before halftime.

In the second half, the Eagles went on the attack as Simon scored within the first 3 minutes of the half. Then, Welling scored his lone goal of the match in the 55th minute. Things got better for the Eagles as the Rangers netted an own goal off a corner kick putting Oxford up 5-2. The Rangers seem to make a comeback by scoring 2 straight goals, but Barquet was able to secure the victory by scoring his second goal in the final minutes of regulation.

"This was great bounce back victory for our boys," stated Head Coach Moss-Brown. "Our boys worked extremely hard this weekend and it was great for them to end it with a win."

The Eagles will be traveling to face Georgia Military College JV on September 25th at 7:00pm. This is the Eagles 4th straight road game.
