Men’s Soccer Dominates on Sophomore Night

OXFORD, GA - In a rematch against All-in-FC, which ended in a 2-2 draw back in September, the Oxford Men's Soccer Team was able to come out with 5-1 victory.

Sophomore Captain Erich Mildner had two goals to lead the Eagles. Fellow sophomores Nick ForwardEiki Hasegawa, and Jason Welling each contributed a goal in Oxford's win.

Starting in the first half, All-in-FC had a chance to score first but goalkeeper Thomas Bamforth came up with two back-to-back saves to keep the game tied. Minutes after that, Forward netted the first goal of the match. The Eagles led 1-0 for most of the first half until Mildner netted his first goal of the match in the 38th minute. The Eagles went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

At halftime, we honored our 12 sophomores out on the field. Players were either accompanied by their parents, siblings, or a close friend.

In the second half, Hasegawa scored in the 53rd minute to stretch the Eagle's lead to 3. Sophomore Matthew Beech had a chance to stretch the lead to 4 with a wonderful bicycle kick, but the ball hit the goal post and went out for a corner. Later on, Welling scored his lone goal of the match to give the Eagles a commanding 4-0 lead. All-in-FC was able to net a goal in the final minutes to put them on the board. However Mildner was able to answer back with his second goal of the match to end the game 5-1.

"I am extremely proud of our team and how they fought tonight to get this victory," stated Head Coach Moss-Brown. "We were able to get the win and celebrate our sophomores."

The Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday, October 23rd against Georgia Military College. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:45 PM at Bivings Field.
