Men’s Soccer Defeats Meridian 2-1, To Stay Undefeated

Meridian, MS - The Emory Oxford men's soccer team traveled to Mississippi to compete in the Rush Invitational. In their first match against NJCAA Division I foe Meridian Community College, the Eagles won 2-1. Oxford improves to 4-0 for the season, while Meridian drops to 3-3.

The first half was uneventful with no goals being scored. Things picked up in the second, as the Eagles got on the board first with a goal by sophomore Brandon Simon in the 63rd minute, assisted by freshman Ryan Rohling. However, Meridian went on the attack and was able to draw a penalty within 2 minutes. They capitalize and tied the game 1-1. The decisive goal came in the 78th minute when freshman Parker Morford crossed the ball into the box and found fellow freshman Jason Im, who netted the game-winning goal.

"Our team played extremely well today against a tough opponent," stated Head Coach Moss-Brown. "In what was a physical match, our team kept our composure and battled to the end."

The Eagles will finish the weekend against Northwest Mississippi Community College on Saturday (Sept. 20th). Kickoff is set for 3:00PM EST.
