Oxford Golf Finishes Fall Season Vs Georgia Military

The Oxford Men and Women's Golf team wrapped up their light fall schedule with a match play event against the Bulldogs of Georgia Military College.

The Eagles were swept by the Bulldogs in the five matches on the Men's side, but the competition had positive implications for the spring season. "One of our top players was unable to compete in the match so all of our players were playing up a spot. The men were competitive and worked hard to extend their matches" stated Head Coach Molly McNamara. Freshman Ben Wiseman lost his match 2 & 1 and sophomore Alex Grainger was defeated in his match 3 & 2. Also competing for the Eagles were freshmen JC SmithStewart Zelnick, and Owen Rourke-Nichols. "This match play event allowed the team to get another competitive round in this fall, but most importantly it allowed them all to see what they need to work on so that they can come into the spring season ready to go. While the results on the men side were not what we would like, it showed the men that they are not far from being very competitive with any other program" said Coach McNamara.

With only two women competing for the Eagles, freshman Bridget Barnsley went head-to-head versus the Bulldog's #1 and #2 players and defeated them both during the match. Sophomore Signe Forsingdal competed against the Bulldog's #3 and #4 players, beating one of her two opponents. "I'm very pleased with the way that our two women played on Saturday," stated Coach McNamara. "Bridget did not get off to the start she wanted but after her second hole she started to pick up her play. She is capable of doing great things on the golf course and we are excited to see what the spring season has in store for her. Signe got off to a very solid start and competed well throughout the round. After the round she was already talking about the areas of her game she wants to work on which shows her desire to continue to improve."

The Eagles will be back in action in the spring. The full schedule will be posted as soon as possible.
