Women’s Tennis Drops First Match of the Season to Piedmont

Oxford, GA - In their first action of the fall season, the defending national champions dropped to 0-1 after losing to Piedmont College 6-3. 

The Eagles three wins all came from singles play. Sophomore Cody Lu won first singles in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. Fellow sophomore Jenna Shin also won in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 to claim fifth singles. In sixth singles, freshman Hailey Kim defeated her opponent in a hard-fought match winning 6-2, 3-6 (10-8). Kim was down 6-8 in the tiebreaker set and won four straight points. 

"We had three good wins in singles play and the girls competed well," stated Head Coach Pernilla Hardin. "We still have some work to do in women's doubles." 

The Eagles will be on the road next weekend (Sept. 14-Sept. 15). They will face Jones College and Meridian Community College on Saturday and then play East Central Community College Sunday. They will return home to compete against Spartanburg Methodist on Saturday, September 28th.
