Oxford Men’s Basketball Wins First Road Test

HIGHLIGHTS

DAYTON, TN – Late free throws in the final seconds of the game help seal the victory for the Oxford Men's Basketball Team over Bryan College Reserve Squad. With the win, the Eagles improve to 2-0 for the season.

The Eagles had 5 players in double figures and were led by sophomore captains Zane Patel and Ryan Kwong. Patel had a stellar night, scoring 22 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Kwong produced another amazing shooting performance scoring 20 points and making 6 of 9 three pointers. Freshman JJ Halaby filled up the stat sheet with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Fellow freshman Jermon Clark had another double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore Eric Lee scored 13 points and dished out 4 assists to round up the night for the Eagles.

The Eagles were able to start off the game on a 9-0 run, but the Lions kept themselves in it with 5 three pointers in the first 10 minutes of action. The Eagles went into half time up 42-36.

In the second half, the Eagles started to heat up when Patel got a steal and took it all the way for a dunk. Later, Kwong hit a couple three-pointers and the Eagles made key defensive stops to build a 17-point lead. Unfortunately, the Lions got hot from behind the three point line and went on a 18-2 run to bring them back within a point. From there, both teams started trading baskets in the final minutes, but the Eagles were able to keep their lead and secure the victory with free throws from Lee and Halaby.

The Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday, November 6th against Piedmont College Reserve Squad. The game will be in Williams Gym and is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
