Men’s Tennis Sweep Spartanburg Methodist

Spartanburg, SC – The Emory Oxford men's tennis team traveled to South Carolina this Saturday (Mar. 30) and defeated the Pioneers of Spartanburg Methodist College 9-0.

Starting with doubles play, the Eagles swept the Pioneers in straight sets. Freshman Kavi Jain and sophomore Tate Coston won first doubles 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore captain Julian McCarthy and freshman Kevin Yan easily won second doubles 6-0, 6-0. In third doubles, freshman Orest Los and sophomore David George won 6-0, 6-2.

In singles play, the Eagles easily won each match in straight sets. McCarthy dominated his opponent 6-0, 6-0 to win first singles. Jain defeated his opponent 6-4, 6-1 in second singles. Coston won third singles 6-0, 6-2. In fourth and fifth singles, Yan and Los each won their match 6-0, 6-0. Freshamn John Funda won sixth singles 6-0, 6-1 to round out the day for Oxford.

"The boys played extremely well this weekend," stated Pernilla Hardin, Head Coach. "This was another great win as we continue to prepare for Nationals in May."

The Eagles will travel to Maryland this coming weekend (April 6-7) to compete in the Harford Invitational Tournament.
