Anthony Vargas named CHL Student-Athlete of the Month for January 2024

The Center for Healthful Living (CHL) has recognized sophomore Anthony Vargas of the men’s basketball team as the January Student-Athlete of the Month. This award recognizes a student athlete's commitment to the CHL's motto: Educate the Mind and Exercise the Body.

Vargas, from Woodland Park, New Jersey, has made the most of his time on the Oxford Campus. He is captain of the basketball team, helps coach the women’s basketball club team, and is president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Board. Outside of athletics, Vargas is an Oxford Service Leader, president of OxFellowship, co-chair of the Oxford Class Gift Committee, member of the Oxford College Alumni Board, and a facilitator with Learning to Lead.

Outside of Oxford, he does work as a graphic designer and a camp counselor. He is also involved with his high school’s alumni advisory board. 

Academically, Vargas is a Judy Greer Scholar, which is a scholarship awarded to two rising sophomores who exemplify the spirit and mission at Oxford College). He is also a Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society member, and was a member of the NJCAA Men’s Basketball Academic Team and an NJCAA All-Academic Second Team recipient. He has also been a Dean’s List Scholar. Vargas plans on majoring in psychology with a goal of becoming a physician’s assistant.
