Eagles Look Strong in Mississippi Trip

The Oxford College women's tennis team travelled to Meridian, Mississippi over the weekend to compete in three matches against strong opponents. Their first and most challenging opponent was Copiah-Lincoln, who defeated won every doubles match on Saturday. However, the Eagles recovered in their singles matches to take the 5-4 overall victory against their first opponent.

Next, the women faced Hind Community College in a well fought battle for the Eagles in which they ended in an 8-1 overall victory. Mary Katherine Healy won her singles match against Hind in a three set tiebreaker that ended with a final set score of 10-7.

Finally, the Eagles faced Meridian Community College on Sunday which lead to another strong performance and 7-2 victory. Caroline Kawula won her singles match 6-2 and 6-3, while Joyce Min had a clean sheet in a 6-0 and 6-0 victory in her singles match.

Overall the women's tennis team went 20-7 in their matches over the weekend and went undefeated against their three opponents. Coach Pernilla Hardin had this to say about her team's showing, "In our first match we had a weak performance in doubles, but we buckled down in singles. MK did a great job in her match by winning in three sets when the overall score between the teams was 4-4, which ultimately clinched the match for us. The girls rocked the second and third matches. Our sophomores lead the team to three victories this weekend and all of our hard work has paid off."

Oxford College will have their next match at home on Friday, October 6th against Oglethorpe University at 4:00 pm. They hope to see everyone out there to support them and keep their streak going!
