Three Emory Oxford Teams Named Academic Team of the Year

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced their 2020-21 Academic Teams of the Year. These are the programs that achieved the highest GPA in their respective sport throughout the academic year.

This year, Emory Oxford had three teams earn this honor, matching last year's total, men's soccer, women's soccer and men's tennis. This marked the second-best total recipients behind Monroe (NY), who had an NJCAA-best four teams earn Academic Team of the Year.  Men's tennis had the highest GPA among the three teams, with a 3.86. Women's soccer finished the year with a 3.76 GPA and men's soccer had a 3.67. Out of the six programs that repeated, men's soccer was the only Emory Oxford repeat recipient.

Women's cross-country, who had a GPA of 3.84, finished second behind Monroe (NY). Men's basketball, who finished first last year, tied for third with a GPA of 3.50. Men's golf had a top-5 finish with a GPA of 3.6 and women's tennis finished in the top-15 with a 3.53 GPA. Women's golf and men's cross-country did not have enough student-athletes to qualify for the team awards.

"It was another great year academically for us," stated Roderick Stubbs, Athletic Director. "Although we did not have competition this year, our student-athletes remained focused in the classrooms and excelled. We look to continue our academic success heading in this upcoming year."
