Eagles Fall to the Golden Knights in Conference Opener

The Oxford College men's basketball team went on the road to play their conference opener versus the Golden Knights of West Georgia Technical College and did not fair well falling 72 to 46.  The Eagles kept it close after a relatively slow start by both teams, but with the score tied at the 10:00 mark of the first stanza the Golden Knights went on a 20 to 4 run to stretch the lead to 31 to 15 with 2:00 remaining. The score at halftime was 31 to 18. 

The Golden Knights dominated the start of the second half with a 16 to 1 run over the first 2:00 minutes to take a commanding 47 to 19 lead. 

"They took it to us tonight," commented head coach Roderick Stubbs. "WGTC took us out of our offensive game and we just could not get into any flow". 

The Eagles scored a season low 46 points and shot a season low 27.3 percent from the field.  

Ryan Kwong and Eric Lee led the Eagles in scoring with 11 points apiece.  

Oxford had won 5 in a row coming into the game but now drops to 8-10 and 0-1 for the season. 

The Eagles next game versus Emmanuel College JV on Friday, January 26 @ 7:30pm in the friendly confines of Williams Gym.  At halftime of the game, the 2017 men's tennis national champions will receive their championship rings and unveil their national championship banner.
