Balance Attack Propels Eagles to Victory on Alumni Day, 73 to 69

OXFORD, Ga. – In yet another drama-filled outing, the Eagles of Oxford/Emory held on again in the 2nd half to slip past the Barons of Brewton Parker JV, 73 to 69.  The victory sent the Alumni and fans home happy after a hard contested back and forth game.  This was the last game of the regular season for the Eagles. 

The Eagles are now 12-17 overall and have won back-to-back games to finish the regular season.

Sophomore Sean Wickham, who again was stellar with a team-best 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds.  Three other Eagles got in double figure scoring to lead a balance scoring attack.  Freshman Zane Patel scored 12 points along with a team leading 11 rebound for a solid double-double. Robert Wainio and Seb Mosso contributed 11 points each for the Eagles.

"We played a solid game tonight versus a very good opponent," commented head coach Roderick Stubbs. "We had extra motivation as we did not want to lose in front the former players that returned for Alumni Night. It is now time for the second season and we will prepare hard to get ready for the tournament."

After being up 35 to 22 with 5:31 second to go in the half, the Barons went on a 14 to 4 run to close out the half and cut the lead to 3 at 39 to 36.  The 2nd half was a back and forth affair with 7 lead changes and 3 ties before the Eagles took control in the last two minutes of the game.

The Eagles had another great shooting night making 50 percent of their field goals and make 8 of 10 free throws.  The Eagles defense held the Barons to 36.2 percent shooting.

The Eagles are set to compete in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Basketball Tournament at home on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00PM versus conference foe Southern Crescent Technical College.
