Emory Oxford Set To Compete In Dennis Spruell Classic

Oxford, GA – The ­­­­­­8th annual Dennis Spruell Classic will take place on Friday, January 18th and Saturday, January 19th. The six teams competing in the classic will be Emory Oxford, Georgia Northwestern Tech, Georgia Highlands Diamonds, MacDill Airforce Base, the women's club team from Emory Oxford, and women's varsity from Georgia Northwestern Technical College. 

History:

The Dennis Spruell Classic was started in 2012 to honor Dennis Spruell for his contribution to Oxford College and the Oxford College Athletic Program. Mr. Spruell was first and foremost a man that loved his family. His son, Andy, was a member of the Oxford Basketball program from 2003-2005 and is currently the assistant director of operation and recreation within the Center for Healthful Living. Mr. Spruell established the Oxford Basketball Booster Club and was a devoted fan. He and his wife would assist in any manner necessary from running the concession stands, to the Voice of the Eagles, to playing Santa Clause at many of the Kid's Night Out programs.  

The Team:

The Emory Oxford Men's Basketball Team will go into the Classic with a 12-5 record for the season, including a 9-1 record at home. The Eagles are led by standout point guard, JJ Halaby who is averaging 25.1 points per game, 4.7 assists per game, and 5.2 rebounds point guard. The first-year has been honored with consecutive GCAA Division III Player of the Month for November and December. With him in the backcourt is sophomore captain Ryan Kwong who is currently averaging 18.1 ppg, while shooting nearly 47% from behind the arc. In the front court, Emory Oxford is anchored by fellow captain Zane Patel and first-year  Jermon Clark. Patel is averaging a near double-double with 12.3 ppg and 9.7 rpg, while Clark is averaging a double-double with 11.2 ppg and 11.6 rebounds per game. 

Emory Oxford currently holds a 13-1 record in the classic.
