Emory Oxford Wins With Strong Second-Half

HIGHLIGHTS

Oxford, GA – Led by sophomore captain Ryan Kwong who had career-high 30 points, the Emory Oxford Men's Basketball team defeated the Bobcats of Georgia Northwestern Technical College 81-67. The Eagles improve to 13-5 for the season, including an impressive 10-1 record at home. The Bobcats fall to 3-10.

The Eagles had three players in double figures led by Kwong who also had 8 three-pointers, which ties the school record for most made threes in a single game. First-year JJ Halaby scored 23 points and dished out 5 assists. Classmate Aaron Gerber came off the bench with 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists.

The Eagles led for the entire game as they jumped out to an 11-3 lead early in the first-half. However, the Bobcats were able to get back in the game by shooting 47% from inside the arc, while the Eagles relied on the three, but were unable to continue their hot start. Oxford went into halftime only up 38-35.

In the second-half, the Eagles look to score the ball inside more and were succesful shooting 61% from two-pointers. Oxford locked in on the defensive end only allowing 1 three-pointer the entire second-half and holding the Bobcats to 36% from two-pointers. The Eagles built a 19-point lead late in the half, which was too difficult to overcome.

"We relied on the three to much in the first-half and outside of Ryan, no one else was making those shots," stated Roderick Stubbs, Head Coach. "We had a different mindset coming out of the second-half and the guys played extremely well in this win."

The Eagles return to action Saturday, January 19th against Georgia Highlands Diamonds. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00PM.
