Eagles Dominate Bears in Men's Basketball Season Opener

Oxford, GA - The Emory Oxford men's basketball team opened their season with an impressive 99-58 victory over the Bear of Truett McConnell JV. 

The Eagles had four players in double figures, starting with sophomore Nick Nist who had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Sean Osei had 16 points, six assists and shot 3-of-6 from behind the arc. Sophomore Dante Conley-Leonardi scored 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting while grabbing seven rebounds. Freshman KJ Walker scored 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting, including two-for-2 from three. 

The Eagles started slow, falling 10-8 in the first half. However, a three by Osei sparked a huge run for the Eagles, and they never looked back. 

For the game, the Eagles shot 61.1 percent (33-of-54) from the field and 57.1 percent (8-of-14) from three-point range. The Eagles shared the ball well, finishing with 24 assists on 41 makes. They also outrebounded the Bears 47-31. 

"This was a good way to start the season for us," commented Coach Roderick Stubbs, who is headed into his 16th-season with the team. "We played together as a team and everyone got a chance to play tonight."

Emory Oxford returns to action on Thursday (Nov. 4) when they play the Tigers of Trinity College (FL.). Tipoff will be at 7:00 PM (EST) in William Gym.
