Eagles Win Second Straight Versus Trinity College

Oxford, GA - A strong second half propelled the Emory Oxford men's basketball team to an 83-67 victory over the Tigers of Trinity College. The Eagles improved to 2-0 for the season.

The Eagles had three players in double figures and were led by sophomore Nick Nist, who scored 18 points, grabbed five rebounds and recorded four steals. Freshman Sean Osei scored 17 points and also grabbed five rebounds. Classmate Justin Whitening scored 11 points and was perfect from the field, going 4-of-4 including 3-of-3 from behind the arc. Sophomore Dante Conley-Leonardi led the Eagles with seven assists.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 12-2 lead and led the entire game. The Tigers did cut the deficit down to two points before going into the half only down by seven. The Eagles got hot from three in the second half, hitting seven out of their eight made for the entire game. Whitening made all of his three's in a four-minute span to spark a 19-8 run for Emory Oxford.

For the game, the Eagles shot 54.5 percent (30-of-55) from the field, including 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from three. They outscored the Tigers 42-24 in the paint and held the rebounding advantage at 43-22.

"This was another good team win for us," said Coach Roderick Stubbs. "We made a great run there in the second half that helped us keep the lead and secure the victory."

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday (Nov. 6) against NJCAA Division II rival Pasco-Hernando State College. The game will begin at 2:00 PM.
