Eagles Bounce Back with Home Victory

Oxford, GA - The Emory Oxford men's basketball team bounced back after a tough loss on Saturday with a win against the Rams of Columbia International JV. The Eagles won 73-69 and improved to 3-1 for the season.

The Eagles only had two players in double figures, freshman Sean Osei and sophomore Nick Nist. Osei led the way with 24 points while shooting 11-of-12 from the free-throw line, including 8-of-9 in the second half. Nist recorded his second double-double with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Freshman KJ Walker led the Eagles with five assists.

Emory Oxford jumped out early in the first half, gaining a 24-11 advantage. The Rams used a 9-2 run to cut the deficit by six before going into the half down by nine.

The Eagles recorded their largest lead (17) in the second half with three-pointers from Walker, freshman Isaac Snyder and Osei. However, turnovers by Emory Oxford helped the Rams cut down the deficit.

With three minutes to go, the Eagles were up by ten before the Rams hit a three to cut it down to seven. A turnover by the Eagles led to free throws by the Rams, cutting the lead to five points. Osei answered back with a pair of free throws on his own. However, the Rams were able to get off a quick three and made it 69-65 with 1:56 left in regulation. After a timeout, the Eagles turned the ball over, which led to another Ram's basket. With a two-point lead, the Eagles made some critical stops before Walker hit two free throws. However, the game was not over, as the Rams later answered back. With the score at 71-69 and 14.4 on the clock, Osei sealed the victory with two free throws.

The Eagles held the advantage in free throws, shooting 26-of-38, while the Rams only shot 2-of-6.

"At the end of the day, this was a good win for us," stated Coach Roderick Stubbs. "We still have some work to do to get better, but it was good to come out with a victory."

The Eagles will go on the road to play Southern Crescent Technical College on Wednesday (Nov. 10). The game will begin at 7:15 pm.
