Eagles Lose to No. 16 Sandhills in Conference Matchup

Oxford, GA – The Emory Oxford men's basketball took on the 16th-ranked Sandhills Community College in a big conference matchup at home. The Flyers defeated the Eagles 93-78 to improve to 14-6 and 4-0 in conference play. The Eagles dropped to 5-8 and 0-4 in the conference.

Freshman Sean Osei led the Eagles in scoring with 23 points to go along with four assists. Fellow first year, KJ Walker scored 13 points and dished out a team-high five assists. Classmate Isaac Snyder scored 10 points and grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds to lead the Eagles in that category. Sophomore Kabir Bergin was the fourth Eagle in double figures with 12 points.

The Flyers jumped out to an early 11-3 lead before the Eagles scored five unanswered to bring them within three. From there, the game was back-and-forth, with Sandhills maintaining a steady lead for most of the half. However, mistakes by the Eagles late in half led to a 41-29 deficit going into the break.

In the second half, the Eagles struggled to cut into the deficit early on and found themselves down by 19. But they showed their resilience and fought back into the game. Using a 16-3 run, the Eagles brought themselves within 6, the closest they would get in this half. Eventually, they fell 93-78.

"We played pretty well today," commented Coach Roderick Stubbs. "However, it was not enough against a very good team like Sandhills. Every time we got close to the lead, they answered back."

The Eagles will hit the road next to face the Stormy Petrels at Oglethorpe University. The game is on Tuesday, January 18th, for a 7:00 PM start.
