Men's basketball suffers overtime loss against Georgia Christian Community College

Oxford, Ga. - The Emory Oxford men's basketball team lost a hard-fought game against the visiting Georgia Christian Community College in overtime by a score of 97-95.

The Eagles took a quick lead and held it for the entirety of the first, leading by 15 points midway through the half. The Knights fought back but Emory Oxford had a 41-35 lead at halftime.

Georgia Christian continued to chip away at Emory Oxford's lead and eventually had a seven point lead in the middle of the second half.

With 6.4 seconds left in the half, the Eagles held onto a three point lead after freshman Daniel Shin made one of his two free throws. After, the Knights had possession of the ball, and one of the players hit a difficult three-point shot with 0.3 seconds left on the clock, sending the game into overtime. 

In overtime, both teams traded leads and tied several times, with neither team leading by more than three points. After a steal, Georgia Christian scored the game-winning field goal with less than 40 seconds left to bring the score to 96-94. Both teams added another point each from free throws.

Five Eagles had points in the double digits. Sophomore Zuri Greene led both teams with 30 points. He added 16 points for another double-double this season. Shin and sophomore Ryan Kim each had 18 points. Kim also had eight rebounds. Sophomores Anthony Vargas and Josh Kim added 17 and 10 points, respectively. Vargas had six rebounds.

As a team, the Eagles had a 44.3 two-point field goal percentage and made 71.4% of their free throws.

Emory Oxford's next game will be against Georgia Highlands Reserve Squad at home. Game time is 7 p.m.
