Braselton, GA - The Emory Oxford men's golf team concluded their regular season in the GCAA tournament held at the Chateaux Elan Golf Club on April 23rd and 24th. The Eagles were led by freshman Nick Paschetto (two-day total of 156) who posted a 76 during the second round which placed him as the top Division III golfer by 2 strokes. This finish qualified Paschetto as an individual for the NJCAA Division III National Tournament which will be held on June 4th-7th at Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, New York.
"Nick is a consistent, level-headed golfer who comes from a great golf background. His tournament experience from junior golf and high school has made his transition to collegiate golf appear seamless. He has competed against high caliber golfers and I believe that he has the ability to place high at the National Tournament," stated Head Coach Molly McNamara.
As a team, the Eagle's posted an opening round 335 putting them 12 strokes down to the Bulldogs of Georgia Military College. The team improved on the second day of competition posting a 329 on day two, but it was not enough to overcome the Bulldog's consistent play. Freshamn Ben Wiseman posted consistent rounds (163) to help the pace the Eagles. "Ben is very dedicated and practices very hard to fine tune his game. I know that he didn't post the scores that he wanted to, but his consistency during the year was a great asset to the program," praised Coach McNamara.
Sophomore Alex Grainger wrapped up his Oxford College career with a two-day total of 171. Contributing to the team score were JC Smith and freshman Stewart Zelnick both posting a two-day total of 174.
"While the goal was to qualify for Nationals as a team, I am proud of what we accomplished as group this year," stated McNamara. "I believe that this is the first year that we have had a full team compete attempting to qualify for Nationals, so as we look to building a successful program we are taking the right steps. Having Nick qualifying as an individual is very exciting for him as well as the program; we cannot wait to see what he can accomplish."
