Men's Soccer Ties Andrew College in Season Opener

Cuthbert, GA - After having to cancel their first three games of the season, the 14th-ranked Emory Oxford men's soccer team had their first game of the season against the Tigers of Andrew College.

The Eagles struck first early in the opening half with a great goal. After drawing a foul in the 2nd minute, sophomore Arturo Juarez had a free kick from about 75 yards from goal. The ball traveled in the air and classmate Artemy Ivanov was able to get his foot on the ball and kick it over the goalkeeper's outstretched hands. The Eagles struck again in the 6th minute when sophomore Kiernan Barket passed it to fellow sophomore Evan Yang who found the back of the net to extend the Eagle's lead to 2-0. Emory Oxford went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

The Eagles' defense was strong in the second half, not allowing a goal in the first 20 minutes of action. However, the Tigers found an opening in the 60th minute when Tykell Jones scores to cut the Eagles' lead by 1. The Tigers then tied the game in the 75th minute when Jones received a pass from teammate Derek Martinez and netted his second goal of the game. The game ended in a 2-2 tie.

"This was a tough way to end the game," said Coach Moss-Brown. "We felt that we should have been able to close this out."

The Eagles will return home as they face Spartanburg Methodist College on Wednesday, September 15th. Kickoff will be at 6:45 PM EST.
