Eagles Capture First Victory of the Season

Oxford, GA - The Emory Oxford men's soccer team captured their first win of the season against the Fighting Tigers of Andrew College. This was a rematch between the two teams,  the first game ending in a 2-2 tie, the Eagles were victorious 3-2 in an exciting game. The Eagles improve to 1-2-2 for the year while Andrew College drops to 1-6-2. 

The Eagles struck first in the 14th minute of the game when freshman Ashwin Giri crossed the ball into the middle and sophomore Luke Isler headed into the back of the net for his second goal of the year. The Fighting Tigers answered back in the 40th minute to tie the game 1-1. In the 44th minute, the Eagles drew a foul and had an opportunity to score on a free-kick. Giri, who took the free-kick, netted his first goal of the year. The Eagles went into halftime with a 2-1 lead. 

In the second half, the Eagles scored their third goal in the 62nd minute when Isler received a pass from a teammate and crossed it into the middle, where sophomore Artemy Ivanov found the back of the net. This was Ivanov's second goal of the year, the first coming in the first matchup with Andrew College. In the 70th minute, freshman goalie Neils Armbruster came up with two huge saves to keep the 3-1 lead. With five minutes to go, the Fighting Tigers scored their second goal. However, their last efforts proved too late as the Eagles won 3-2. 

"This was a good win for us, especially because it is our first of the year," said Coach Moss-Brown. "We played a tough team in Andrew, but I am proud of how our players played today." 

The Eagles will travel to Mississippi this weekend to play East Central CC (Friday, October 1) and Holmes CC (Saturday, October 2).
