Eagles Lose to Spartanburg on the Road

Spartanburg, SC - The Emory Oxford men's soccer team went on the road to face the Pioneers of Spartanburg Methodist College. The Eagles were defeated 7-4 and drop to 1-4-2, while the Pioneers improved to 6-7 for the season. 

The Pioneers struck first in the game, scoring two goals in the 31st and 35th minute, taking a 2-0 lead into halftime. 

The Eagles finally got on the board in the second half when sophomore Arturo Juarez found classmate Artemy Ivanov who netted his third goal of the year. The Pioneers answered back with a goal of their own in the 61st minute. Within the next two minutes, the Eagles scored their second goal when freshman Ryan Scholte assisted on a Luke Isler goal. This is the sophomore's third goal of the year. The score was 3-2 at this point. 

Within a span of seven minutes, the Pioneers scored three straight goals to take a commanding 6-2 lead. The Eagles answered back with goals from Ivanov (71st minute) and Isler (84th minute). However, this proved to be too late as the Pioneers scored their seventh goal of the game in the final minutes. Pioneer sophomore Youkendjy Pacius scored a game-high five goals to lead Spartanburg to a win. 

"This was a tough loss for us today, but I am still proud of how our players continued to compete to the very end," commented Coach Moss-Brown.

The Eagles will return home and face the Bulldogs of Georgia Military College on Wednesday, October 13th. This game will begin at 6:30 PM.
