Men’s soccer defeats Spartanburg Methodist College 2-1

Spartanburg, SC - The Emory Oxford men's soccer team scored twice in the first half on the road and did not look back as the team went on to defeat Spartanburg Methodist College 2-1.

About 12 minutes into the first half, the Eagles got the scoring started on a goal from sophomore Eyob Gebru with an assist from freshman Brody Weinfurtner. Gebru also led the team in shots on goal with three.

Emory Oxford increased its lead about 15 minutes later on an unassisted goal from freshman Gerard Kong.

In the second half, the Pioneers cut the lead by one 17 minutes in with a goal from Asael Sterwart.

Freshman goalie Chris Do made seven saves for the Eagles, bringing the team's overall record to 4-4-1. On the other side of the field, Spartanburg's goalie, Kyle Hansen, stopped five shots. The Pioneers' record now sits at 1-8-3.

The Eagles will next face the Emory University club team at home on Thursday, Oct. 5. Gametime will be 6:45 p.m.
