Men's soccer shuts out Georgia Military College

Oxford, Ga. - The Emory Oxford men's soccer team defeated tough conference foe Georgia Military College for the first time on a penalty kick by freshman Gerard Kong.

Both teams went back-and-forth for the first 11 minutes until Kong was brought down near the goal of the Bulldogs, resulting in a penalty kick. He was able to get the ball past the goalkeeper to put the home team up 1-0.

For the rest of the game, Georgia Military College continued to apply pressure to the Eagles, trying to even the score. Georgia Military College put 21 shots on goal, compared to four from Emory Oxford.

Freshman goaltender Chris Do made several difficult saves to keep the opponents scoreless. He finished the game with 12 total.

The win puts Emory Oxford at 2-1-1 in the conference and 6-7-1 overall. The Bulldogs drop to 3-1 in the conference and 10-5-2 overall.

Next up for the Eagles is the regional semi-final game against Andrew College. Game time is set for 6:45 p.m. at Bivings Field. The Eagles and Andrew College have played twice this season with Emory Oxford winning the first and two teams tying the second time.
