Men's soccer moves on to GCAA regional championship

Oxford, Ga. - The Emory Oxford men's soccer team is moving on to the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Region 17 championship.

The Eagles defeated visiting Andrew College 1-0 in the semifinal to reach the next game.

After a scoreless first half, sophomore Minghan Cui broke the tie with a goal early in the second. He was assisted by freshman Denis Tahirovic. Cui also led the team with two shots on goal.

Both teams played physically in the second half, trying to score another goal. The Fighting Tigers had opportunities on free kicks to tie the game, but the Emory Oxford defense stayed strong. Freshman goalie Chris Do made three saves in the game, along with several tough plays to keep Andrew College scoreless.

Emory Oxford now sits at 7-7-1.

The Eagles will now face Georgia Military College in the regional championship. Kickoff is at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21 at GMC.
