Men’s Tennis Defeats Piedmont in First Match of the Fall Season

Oxford, GA - The defending national champions saw the court for the first time this fall against Piedmont College and won 7-2. The team starts off their fall season 1-0. 

In doubles play, the Eagles won all three matches. Sophomore Kevin Yan and freshman Bryce Guenther won first doubles 8-3. In second doubles, sophomore Kavi Jain and freshman Michael Ru easily defeated their opponents 8-1. In third doubles, freshmen Jeremy Cai and Edward Brambil won a hard fought match 9-7. 

In singles play, the Eagles claimed four out of the six matches. Jain, who was competing in first singles, won in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. In second doubles, Yan also won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. Ru came back from behind winning fourth singles 3-6, 6-1 (10-5). Brambil rounded out the day with a 6-2, 6-1 victory in fifth singles.

"Our boys came out battling hard today," stated Head Coach Pernilla Hardin. "The returning sophomores showed good leadership and it was a strong effort by our first years."

The Eagles will be headed to South Carolina from September 20th-22nd, when they compete in the ITA Tournament. They will return home to compete against Spartanburg Methodist on Saturday, September 28th.
