Cross Country Competes in First Race of the Season

RESULTS

Macon, GA - The Emory Oxford men's and women's cross country team competed in the MGA Invitational hosted by Middle Georgia State University. Due to each team only having four runners start and finish their respective races, they could not score as a team. However, the Eagles did well on an individual level.

On the men's side, four Eagles finished the race and were led by freshman Aaron Li who finished with a time of 29:54, which was good enough for a 6th-place finish individually. Fellow freshman Darren Ni and Alex Lucas finished with times of 32:33 and 32:46. To round out the men's race, first-year Andrew Johnson finished in the top-30 with a time of 32:58.

In the women's race, four Eagles finished in the top 20, including three finishing in the top-10. Freshman Sophia Lee led the way with a time of 22:07 to finish in 4th-place. Classmates Emily Wilhelm, who ran a 22:40, and Alexandra Bryant, who had a time of 22:57, finished in sixth and seventh place. Sophomore Sarah Davis ran the race in 24:17, which was good enough for a top-20 finish.

"The final times resulted in the fastest team opener in the history of our program for both men and women," mentioned Head Coach Ella O'Kelley. "If we continue in this direction, great things are to come."

The Eagles will be back in action on Friday, September 10th, at the GMC Brickyard Invitational in Milledgeville, GA.
