Bazata Finishes in Third at Nationals

Freshman Julia Bazata of the women's golf team finished in third place at the 2022 NJCAA DIII Women's Golf National Championship in Chautauqua, New York.

Jamestown Community College hosted the tournament at Chautauqua Golf Club, a par-74, 5,415-yard course. After four days of competition, Julia shot a total of 356, leading to a top-three finish and earning All-American honors.

On the first day of action, the tournament was delayed due to significant rain. After it subsided, Bazata opened the tournament with a 94 (+20), putting her in a tie for fourth place. After a second round of 86 (+12), her best round of the tournament, Bazata moved into solo third. On the final two days, she continued her consistent play shooting 89 (+17) and 87 (+13).

At the closing ceremony, Bazata was awarded the tournament's Sportsmanship Award.

"Julia played consistent golf and battled through some tough weather conditions during the four-day tournament," commented Coach Molly McNamara. "She stayed levelheaded and kept a positive attitude throughout the rounds, which showed not only in her scores but also in being awarded the Sportsmanship Award. Overall, it was a great week and exciting to be a part of history and for her to compete in the inaugural NJCAA DIII Women's Golf Championship.

The individual title went to Scotty Foley of Sandhills Community College, who shot a 319 (82-78-79-80). Her teammate, Ava Ray, finished in second place with a score of 337 (86-84-87-80).
