Oxford Golf Competes in Season Opener

The Oxford College of Emory University men's and women's golf teams competed in their very first event of the spring season.

The women's team, led by sophomore Julia Bazata and freshman Callie Goins, traveled to St. Simons Island, GA, to compete in the Coastal Georgia Winter Invite. The event was held at the 5810-yard, par-72 King and Prince Golf Course. Bazata, who finished her second round 7 shots better than the first, finished with a two-day score of 179. Goins, who competed in her first collegiate event, was consistent in her two rounds.

The men's team, led by four first-year students, traveled to Spanish Fort, AL and competed in the Coastal Alabama Invitational. This tournament was held at Timber Creek GC, a par-72 course playing 7049 yards. Ryan Huang led the Eagles with a top-30 finish shooting a two-day total of 155 (78-77). Ryan Hsieh finished with a score of 170 (83-87), while Noah Sidell posted a 91 on both days. Steven Evangelou was the only other Eagle to compete and posted 192.

This was the first event for most of the Eagles and both tournaments were filled with Division I and Division II schools. The men's team will be back in action next weekend (February 20-21) and the women will return to competition on March 27-28.
