Women’s Soccer Wins On Sophomore Day

OXFORD, GA – It was Sophomore Day for the Oxford Women's Soccer Team, and the Eagles defeated Middle Georgia State JV 4-1. With this win, the Eagles improve to 9-4-2 and finished 7-0 at home in the regular season.

Goal scorers for the Eagles were sophomores Tejan SinghNadia DixonJenna Urgo, and freshman Alex Klimek

In the first half, Singh scored the first goal of the match in the 24th minute. Dixon followed with a goal of her own 5 minutes later. The Knights were able to get on the board with a goal in the 33rd minute. The Eagles went into halftime with a 2-1 lead.

Not much happened early in the second half as the Eagles controlled possession and played great defense. However, in the 61st minute, Singh was able to get into the box and draw a foul leading to a penalty kick. Urgo confidently stepped up and put the ball into the lower left side of the net past the goalkeeper. This put the Eagles up 3-1. In the 71st minute, Kilmek put the game away with her lone goal of the match.

"This was a great way to end the regular season and honor our sophomores who have given alot these past two years," stated Head Coach Tinna Gallagher. "It also gives us great momentum heading into Regionals next weekend."

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, October 27th for the Regional Tournament. This will be held in Maryland.
