Eagles Fall to Oglethorpe

Eagles Fall to Oglethorpe

Oxford, GA - In a crosstown rematch between the Emory Oxford women's soccer team and the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University, the Eagles lost 3-1. First-year Michelle Lee scored the Eagles' lone goal in the second half.

The Stormy Petrels jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the first half and kept this lead a majority of the game. Lee's first goal of the year came in the 78th minute and it was assisted by sophomore Gianna McIntire. The Eagles had opportunities to score but were unable to get past Oglethorpe's goalkeeper, who came up with multiple saves in both halves. The Stormy Petrel's third goal came in the final minutes as they took the 3-1 victory.

"Our girls played hard today, unfortunately, we came up short," said Coach Ruth Geiger. "We had some good chances to score but we were not able to find the back of the net."

The Eagles celebrated sophomore night and honored their 12 sophomores in front of their home crowd before the game.

The Eagles will hit the road and travel to LaGrange College to face the Panthers on Wednesday, October 20th. Kickoff is at 7:00 PM.
