Women's Soccer Defeats Andrew College; Ruth Geiger Picks Up First Career Coaching Win

The Emory Oxford women's soccer team picked up their first win of the season against Andrew College on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles defeated the Fighting Tigers, 6-0. 

Sophomore Julia Bracci led Emory Oxford with two goals in the second half. Freshman Hanna Florence and sophomores Doreen Chigozie OkehAyaka Smart and Louisa Gammill each added one goal.

The Eagles scored the first goal of the game in the 17th minute when sophomore Maria Tsakalakos delivered a corner kick into the box, which Florence scored. This was her second goal of the year. Gammill would double the lead in the 22nd minute when she received a pass from Okeh netting her first goal of the season. Five minutes later, Smart would score her first of the season after an assist from Okeh. The Eagles would take a commanding 3-0 lead into the break. 

In the ensuing half, the Eagles would continue their strong offense, opening with a goal from Okeh, assisted by Florence in the 64th minute. Bracci would score the final two points for Emory Oxford in the 82nd and 88th minutes. 

Match Facts: 

  • This was Head Coach Ruth Geiger's first coaching career win.
  • Okeh had a team-high three assists in addition to a goal. 
  • Sophomore Alexandra Richmond started at goalie and recorded the Eagles' first shutout of the season. 

The Eagles will hit the road and travel on Saturday, September 24th, as they play Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The game is set to start at 2:30 PM.
