Women's Soccer Extends Win Streak to Three

The Emory Oxford women's soccer team claimed their third straight victory with a 6-2 win over Toccoa Falls College. 

Sophomore Maria Tsakalakos led Oxford with two goals and an assist. Freshman Hanna Florence also scored two goals for the team, while sophomores Doreen Chigozie Okeh and Ayaka Smart each contributed a goal. 

Oxford got off to a hot start scoring two goals in the first five minutes of action. Smart scored at the three-minute mark, assisted by sophomore Sophie Schocket. A minute later, Tsakalakos scored off an assist from freshman Lily Chappell. Toccoa would answer at the 10th minute to bring the score to 2-1. Before the half was over, Okeh scored her fourth goal of the season, doubling Oxford's lead to two. 

After the break, Oxford would continue on the attack, with Florence scoring a goal for the team in the 66th minute. Down 4-1, Toccoa would score their second goal of the game coming at the 71st minute. Oxford would deliver the finishing touches in the 74th and 80th minute to win 6-2. 

Match Facts: 

  • Oxford outshot Toccoa 27 to 9 while putting 12 shots on goal. 
  • Sophomore Alexandra Richmond earned five saves in the game.

Oxford will hit the road for the next few weeks, starting with a trip to Mississippi. They will play Sunday, October 9th, against Pearl River Community College and on Monday, October 10th, at East Central Community College.
