Women’s Tennis Dominates Piedmont in Home Opener

Oxford, GA - The Emory Oxford women's team had their home opener against Piedmont University. They won in a dominating fashion, claiming an 8-1 victory to improve to 2-2 for the season. 

The Eagles swept all three doubles matches and only lost a total of four games. Sophomores Joanna Wu and Lara Crosby got the Eagle's first victory winning 8-1 in second doubles. Freshmen Irene Wang and Emily Freestone also won first doubles 8-1. Classmates Lily McCain and Allie Lucky claimed third doubles with a score of 8-2. 

In singles play, the Eagles continued their dominance, winning five out of the six matches. Wu won fifth singles without giving up a single game. In second singles, Freestone defeated her opponent 7-6, 6-1, 7-5. McCain only gave up two games, winning fourth singles 6-0, 6-2. Wang, competing in first singles, won 6-0, 3-6, 6-2. Freshman Mayuri Charan got the Eagles' final win in sixth singles with a score of 6-0, 6-0. 

"Our girls competed well today and the hard work is paying off," said Coach Hardin.

They will face the Lions again next Sunday, September 26th. Matches are set to start at 2:00 PM.
