Tennis finds success at ITA Southeast Regional Championships

Albertville, AL - Lily Liu became a champion as the freshman won her respective draw at the ITA JUCO Southeast Regional Championships held the weekend of Sept. 22-24. The event featured players from all levels of the NJCAA.  

En route to her championship, Liu's matches did not go to a third set. She won her final match 6-3, 6-3.

Teammate freshman Olha Los won the singles consolation draw, defeating teammate and doubles partner freshman Maria Chastel

Also competing for the women was sophomore Yolanda Yang.

On the men's side, 10 players competed for the Eagles. Both doubles pairings of freshmen Grant Smialek and James Gottlieb, and freshmen Daniel Bernard and Paul Kim made it to the semifinals of the consolation in their respective draws. Sophomores Peter Tracy and Ewan Kim made it to the quarterfinals consolation in their draw.

Freshmen Benjamin Xi, Asher Siebel, Nolan Ely and Cameron Eltoft represented Emory Oxford in the tournament as well.

"Our team won 16 matches across three days in true Eagles form – focused and strong," said interim head tennis coach Gwen Blount. "Very proud of the display of skill and effort from Eagles tennis. Very proud of every player and every point played. It was a weekend of team effort at its finest!"

Both teams will start preparing for their upcoming spring seasons.
