Women's tennis narrowly defeated by Piedmont University

The Emory Oxford women's tennis team lost a close match to Piedmont University on the road. The final score was 5-4.

Freshmen Olha Los and Marie Chastel had a big day for the Eagles. The duo won their doubles match 8-6 and both won their singles matches. Los defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-3. Chastel easily won the first set (6-1) but had to battle in the final two (4-6, 10-5) to secure the win.

Also in singles, freshman Lily Liu beat Piedmont by a score of 6-1, 7-5. Sophomore Kashin Mathur competed in a close match. She dropped the first set 2-6, but came back in the second, winning 7-5. The final set was a close 6-10.

On the men's side, Emory Oxford was defeated 9-0, but multiple players had strong showings. Freshman Ben Xi partnered with fellow freshman Daniel Bernard in first doubles, where the duo was narrowly defeated 8-5. In singles, Xi went into three sets with his opponent, where he fought hard in the final set (6-4, 2-6, 7-10). Sophomore Peter Tracy played hard but was defeated 6-3, 6-3.

The next day, the men's team played The Citadel at home, a team in NCAA Division I. Facing a difficult opponent, the Eagles did well in doubles. Bernard and Xi lost 6-3, 6-3 in first doubles. The double pairings of sophomores Ewan Kim/Tracy and freshmen Elliot Li/Asher Seibel both lost 6-2, 6-2 to The Citadel.

Both teams play again on Friday, March 29 at home against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Match time is 1 p.m.
