Men's Basketball Set to Compete in First Home Conference Game

Oxford, GA - This Saturday (Jan. 18)  will mark the 9th Annual Dennis Spruell Classic which will take place in Williams Gym at 3:00PM. The matchup will be between the Eagles of Emory Oxford College versus the Cougars of Central Carolina Community College. The Eagles come into this contest 8-8 while the Cougars are 7-12.

History:

The Dennis Spruell Classic was started in 2012 to honor Dennis Spruell for his contribution to Oxford College and the Oxford College Athletic Program. Mr. Spruell was first and foremost a man that loved his family. His son, Andy, was a member of the Oxford Basketball program from 2003-2005 and is currently the assistant director of operation and recreation within the Center for Healthful Living. Mr. Spruell established the Oxford Basketball Booster Club and was a devoted fan. He and his wife would assist in any manner necessary from running the concession stands, to the Voice of the Eagles, to playing Santa Clause at many of the Kid's Night Out programs.

Coaches vs. Cancer Suits & Sneakers Week

During this game, the coaches will also take part in the annual Suits & Sneakers week, which is a nationwide event when basketball coaches across the country unite for a common cause – saving lives from cancer! Coaches and their staff across the nation will wear sneakers during games to raise awareness and help save lives from cancer by raising funds and encouraging people to educate themselves about cancer prevention, screening, and early detection.
