Former Team Captain Returns as Assistant Soccer Coach

The Oxford College Men's Varsity Soccer Team has recently hired Parker Nguyen as an Assistant Soccer Coach for the 2018-2019 season.

During his time at Oxford College, Nguyen served as a team co-captain his freshman and sophomore years (2014, 2015).

A founding member of the newly re-created Oxford College soccer program Nguyen was instrumental in the fostering of a positive team culture and in building the foundation of a solid program for the players that would follow in the years to come.

As well as playing on the Oxford soccer team, Nguyen was heavily involved in campus life at Oxford College as a member of the Healthy Eagle Peer Educators, as a Peer Assistant Leader, and Oxford Fellowship.

At the Atlanta campus, Nguyen continued his soccer career playing on the Emory Men's Club Soccer team and serving on the Executive Board his senior year.

Nguyen is a 2018 graduate of Emory University. A Biology major, Nguyen is currently working in two endocrinology labs at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta as he pursues continuing educational options in the medical field.

In a recent interview, Nguyen stated that, "Being a part of the Oxford Men's Varsity Soccer Team remains one of my proudest accomplishments and contributed some of my most cherished memories during my time at Emory. My freshman year was the first year that Oxford College made Men's Soccer an official Varsity sport. I am proud to see that the soccer program is now five years strong. The memories of my time at Oxford are permanent due to the lifelong friends I now have. The inaugural soccer squad of Oxford College were very close as a team and still are today.

During my time at Oxford, the Center for Healthful Living was an important resource, and I am extremely grateful to be working with the other coaches and staff of the CHL.

As for Coach Moss-Brown and Coach Lee Duggan, I consider them to be two of my greatest mentors, supporters, and friends, and I love being able to work alongside them every day. I'm also grateful to the current players for accepting me as part of the team. It's been really nostalgic seeing them go through experiences my teammates and I went through as Oxford players, but it's been especially interesting witnessing these experiences from a coaching perspective. They are a great group of guys, and I'm looking forward to what this season has in store for us. I'm just really happy to be back. This coaching experience has truly felt like a full circle moment."

Head Coach Gregory Moss-Brown says "Parker is family. When he asked me if he could help out with the program, I immediately knew that he would serve a role neither I or Coach Lee could fulfill. Alumni are vital in the growth of our program and having experienced the process (and as a Captain) I cannot think of a better fit to assist in the day to day training, the unconditional love & support for the players and the link that bridges the players student athlete concerns.  Parker offers a relentless commitment to helping those whose shoes he once wore.

I am thrilled to have such a gentleman of the game join Coach Lee and myself."
