Morford’s Game-Winner Sends Men’s Soccer to National Tournament

Arnold, MD – Freshman Parker Morford netted the game-winning goal with 30 seconds left in the game to help send the Emory Oxford men's soccer team to the National Tournament. The Eagles defeated Howard Community College 3-2 in the District Championship and improve to 11-2-1 for the season. 

In the first half, Howard scored first in the 9th minute to go up 1-0. Howard went into halftime with this lead. 

In the first 3 minutes of the second half, sophomore Brandon Simon found classmate Eduardo Barquet who netted his 10th goal of the season and tie the game back up. Later in the 63rd minute, Howard struck for the second time to regain the lead 2-1. Luckily, 40 seconds later, Barquet scored his second goal of the game when he a received a pass from sophomore Will Ball to tie the game 2-2. 

With 40 seconds left to go in regulation, freshman Ryan Rohling was able to win the ball and found Morford who kicked the ball over the goalie's outstretched hands for his 7th goal of the year. This ultimately put the Eagles up 3-2 and help them clinch a spot in the National Tournament.  

"This was an amazing game and what an incredible finish," commented Head Coach Greg Moss-Brown. "Our team did not stop battling until the very end and what a great accomplishment for our program."

Morford along with freshman Luke Sims, and sophomores Jack Moynihan and Zack Tuke was named to the All-Tournament Team (see below)

The Eagles are headed to Nationals for the first time in program history, and it will be held in Herkimer, NY from November 14th-17th. More information will be posted on a later date.
