Katie Dorton of the Emory Oxford women's cross country team was named NJCAA Division III National Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Dorton, a sophomore from Atlanta, Georgia, captured the individual title and set a PR over the 5K distance at the Willie Laster Invitational. She crossed the finish line in 20:14.5, nearly six seconds ahead of the runner-up.
This is the second year in a row that a female athlete from Oxford College has been named National Athlete of the Week during the cross country season. Emily Elder earned the honor last year on October 22.
