Eagles Defeat Central Carolina In Spruell Classic

Oxford, GA - In what was their first home conference game of the season, the Emory Oxford men's basketball team defeated the Cougars of Central Carolina Community College 83-72. The Eagles improve to 9-8 for the season while the Cougars drop to 7-13.

The Eagles were led by a trio of freshman in double figures starting with Shane McCravy who had his fourth-straight 30-point double-double with 30 points and 13 rebounds. McCravy shot 11-of-19 from the field and led Oxford in rebounding. Thomas Powell tied his career-high with 23 points and grabbed 7 boards along the way. Jack Polzin had a productive night with 13 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals.

The Eagles had a strong first-half using an 18-5 run to gain an early lead. Free-throws was a big difference yet again as Oxford was 23-for-31 while Central Carolina was 14-of-22. The Eagles also outscored the Cougars 46 to 32 in the paint which help them control the game.

This game was marked as the 9th-annual Dennis Spruell Classic game, which Oxford now has an impressive 16-1 win-loss record in.

"Our team came out with intensity in the first-half and jumped out early, which was difficult to overcome," commented Roderick Stubbs. "This was a great team win today."

The Eagles will get back on the road as they face cross-town rival Oglethorpe University Reserve Squad on Monday (Jan. 20). Tipoff set for 4:00PM.
