Eagles Win on Sophomore Day in a Thrilling Overtime Game

Oxford, GA – The Emory Oxford men's basketball team outscored the Georgia Highlands College Club Team 18-2 in overtime to win 91-75. The Eagles finish the regular season 13-12.

On a day that honored sophomores, the Eagles were led by four freshmen in double figures. Shane McCravy produced his 14th double-double of the season with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Arturo Varela scored sixteen of his 18 points in the second half and grabbed 7 rebounds. Jack Polzin scored 15 points while grabbing 7 rebounds and Thomas Powell scored 13 points. Sophomore Aaron Gerber had a productive night with 9 points and 7 rebounds.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 10-2 lead in the first four minutes of actions. They held the lead all the way into the final minutes of regulation with Georgia Highlands having a chance to win but came up short on a put back.

With the scored tied 73-73 heading in overtime, the Eagles' run was sparked by McCravy, who drove down the middle of the lane and slammed home an emphatic dunk. Powell followed it with two back-to-back threes. After a defensive stop, Polzin grabbed the ball on the side and dribbled all the way for a layup while getting fouled. He would make the free-throw and would go on to score a three-pointer and another layup in to extend the Eagles lead to 14.

"We made it real interesting, but our guys came out and competed to the very end," commented Head Coach Roderick Stubbs. "This was a good note to end the regular season on."

The Eagles will now look ahead to the Regional Tournament as they will play Central Carolina Community College in Pinehurst, NC. The game is set for Saturday, February 22nd on a 3:30PM tip.
